Republican Cowardice
One of the weirdest think about the Reprican party is the number of faux heroes .. from Reagan who landed on D Day in the movies to Bush who went AWOL during Vietnam to the FAUX (and Fox) fed outrage when Reprican cuts forced Obama to close the WWII monument during tCruz led shutdown.
Strangest of all is that few of the rightwing leaders have even served and it is the Democrats, including my own Senator Patty Murray, who have fought for benefits for the real veterans.Iraq war veteran and double amputee Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., showed her anger about this when she confronted an IRS contractor who used a military prep school injury from 27 years ago to qualify for disabled veteran status. This Reprican described himself as having made great sacrifices for his country, describing his football injury as a great sacrifice for the country.
Now. along with Senator Tim Kaine (D, VA) in the Senate, she has introduced the Support Earned Recognition for Veterans (SERV) Act to ensure that service-connected benefits are reserved for those who have served in our Armed Forces. The act will require institutions accepting educational benefits to meet minimum standards. The legislation is also geared toward improving transparency of education and training programs.
Kaine says the bill would allow veterans to gain skills that translate into jobs.
“It makes sure that these veterans who have finite benefits, that they’re going to use those benefits in places that will really equip them for the jobs for tomorrow, rather than use the benefits and find that it wasn’t actually a very good program,” he said.
