Washington State’s Former Governor, The US ambassador to China, resigns
The U.S. ambassador to China, Gary Locke, whose term began in August 2011, said on Wednesday he will step down from his role early next year for personal reasons. He was the first Chinese-American to take the role.
Mr. Locke will return to Seattle where he is not a candidate for the President of Microsoft. What could he be a candidate for? One possibility is a position at the Gates Foundation. Mr. Locke has a long record of being interested in online education, including playing a founding role in creating Western Governor’s University. Given the dubious character of that enterprise, it is not likely he id going there but the Gates Foundation does have long term commitments to similar ideas and Mr. Locke could be a great public face.
