Abbas accepts 18-day premier’s resignation

RAMALLAH, West Bank: President Mahmoud Abbas accepted the resignation of Rami Hamdallah, his newly appointed prime minister on Sunday, a spokesman said, leaving his Palestinian Authority in disarray at a time when an apolitical, technocratic credibility of the Fatah regime is essential for efforts to foster peace talks. Abbas has tried, Rami Hamdallah, an academic University president. says ‘conflicts, confusion, corruption’ are behind departure after power struggle with president.’ This follows the resignation of internationally known economist Salam Fayyad, who also clashed with Abbas.
