I am mystified why any smart person would want Mitt Romney to be President.
The only substantive argument seems to be that Romney has been a successful executive. I have trouble following that argument. Successful executives come in many different flavors depending on the kind of business they run. How would you feel about Donald Trump, Henry Ford, or Steve Balmer as a President?
Romney’s success was at a Venture Capital firm. He did a good job of making money for himself and his shareholders. .. we certainly need such firms but optimizing the return on capital is a lot different then running a manufacturing firm or managing a restaurant. Imagine what Bain does if one of their companies sees a chance to take advantage of the lousy labor laws in China?
I think the question should be why does Mr. Romney want to be President? My guess is that he wants to cap his CV with a big job.
Look at his current CV:
Mormon bishop
Community Organizer for Olympics.
Governor/negotiator from Mass. Engineer of succesful health care system.
Failed candidate for Senate and President.
The Governor job is impressive, but Romney has disparaged that work.
This leaves me with a candidate who is not proud of his own achievements. I had similar questions about the last Republican to serve as President. I look at MR and see a smarter version of GW Bush. As far as I can see Romney wants the cred that comes with being a President but has no clear idea … and no proposals .. for what he would do FOR the country.
Here is a list of ten big issues. Can anyoine tell me where Mitt stands on solving these problems?
<blockquote>
Global Warming
Relations with China and Russia
Peace in Israel
Providing opportunities for education.
Increasing American competitivesness
Stabilizing our banking system for the long run.
Women’s health rights.
Controlling the explosion of health care costs
