I received the following from yet another WGU “student.” The post says that Jerry Davis, a very successful IT security guy got his training at WGU. I did look on the web to find out if it was valid but I did not see nay evidence that Jerry Davis trained at WGU. His public LinkedIn profile says he got an MS from Capitol College and none of several bios I found mention WGU. I did however find a pdf of testimony by a Jerry L Davis that seems to be the same guy.
If this is the same person, it appears that he has used WGU as a source of online tech training. This is consistent with my view that WGU is actually functioning as a reseller and coach of online educational rather than as a university. I have no issue with anyone taking courses or selling course materials. If WGU have helped Mr. Davis’ brother, so much the better. However, presenting adult self education as a university is deceptive,
I have emailed the address of the author of this piece and asked for more information.
I have been recently introduced to the WGU program and I am planning to obtain my degree from there.
I think their program is one of the best I’ve seen for people who desire to be better that just status quo.
Now again, I don’t knock anyone’s decision where they go to college or how. Everyone is entitled to the best decision for their life.
Knowing that I may get some criticism for my [little] opinion but the school does produce some outstanding professionals.
