What YOU can do for Election 2012

Washington state is a “done deal” for Pres. Obama. That does not mean those of us living in this state cannot do things that are useful for this election.
Here are 3 very good things to do:

1. Donate money. Even small contributions make a big difference at this time point in the campaign. Here is a great website where you can donate money trageted on nay race.

2. Make phone calls to contested states. I particularly recommend joining the phone tree for MoveOn.  This year MoveOn is working with the unions on an effort to get out the vote in key states. If you join the phone tree, you will be given numbers to call in those states. These numbers are intended to stimulate MoveOn members who will then contact potential voters.  As scientists, we call this a “geometric progression.”

3. Volunteer for Suzan DelBene.  Suzan is the Democratic candidate for the house in the 1st Congressional District. This is a new district that runs from Redmond to the Canadian border. The district is a swing district but demographic analysis says it will become a blue district in the future. Suzam’s opponent John Koster, is remarkably similar to Paul Ryan… an affable, presentable, hard-core representative of the Tea Party.  If Koster is elected, he will be difficult to remove in future elections.

Having met Suzan, I can tell you that she is an extremely exciting candidate. She is very bright, very familiar with many of our leading faculty at UW, and as a former vice president at Microsoft, has worldwide contacts that can be very helpful to the state of Washington.

Here is Suzan’s site.
