U.S. Census Bureau data show the United States is on its way to becoming “majority minority,” with almost half of all young children currently from minority groups, including Hispanic, black and Asian.

The USA has ALWAYS been made up of minorities.

I do not remember meeting anyone from the majority WASP world until I was in college.  My neighbors and classmates were Irish, Italian, German, Jewish, and Black.  Until entering Harvard I met more Chinese Americans than Smiths. Even at Harvard, my roomates included a Pole and a Jew. Our two neighbors were sort of white folks but one of them was a Ford heir. We had one more roomie .. half German and half DAR.

That DAR guy seemed to me to be a minority. We teased him terribly.  After college I heard the guy had gone on to commit suicide. I felt bad … probably owrse than Mitt Romney feals about having roughed up his gay classmate.,

In 1776, the “majority” in Virginia may have been English and  Anglican but I would guess these white folks were outnumbered greatly by Germans, Quakers, Catholics, Congregationalists, Presbyterians and .. of course African slaves.

Alexander Hamilton was blocked from becoming President because the man on the fiver was born of dubious parents in the Caribbean.

Later “we” were made up of a lot of Germans (remember IKE) and, of course African slaves.

The civil war was fought by Irish immigrants who beat the shit out of “white” southerners. Meantime, US Grant tried to make his army Jew free. Lincoln revoked that idea.

After the civil war, “we” became Irish and Jewish and more Germans.  The slaves mutated to become a new kind of minority .. the African American.

Oh yeah, them African Americans .. they bred with the  rest of us! Is President Obama 1/2 a minority?  What about his daughters, are they each 1/4 “white?”

While we are at it, can someone tell me what a “Hispanic is?”  I met a guy named Lopez Saturday.  He is Fillipino.  Is he Hispanic?  I am half Sephardi .. 500 years ago my ancestors fled Spain. Am I Hispanic?

When my wife and I came here to Seattle we were not allowed into certain places because we were kikes.  Same rules applied to such minorities as Catholics, Wops, Irish .. and of course the former slaves.

My guess is that the census bureau know what it is doing but how do those clever Arizonians tell who is and isn’t Hispanic?

Is George Zimmerman a minority?

How about them Scandinavians who founded Ballard?

Is Mitt Romney, the Mormon, a minority?
