While states are effectively privatizing their universities, tradionally private schools may go the other way.
The President of Notre Dame said “Moving to a competitive, government-funded environment would make the Catholic school more competitive for the best students.”
“We are expanding, 9000 enrolments in just four years. We are having to manage the growth because we don’t have the capital infrastructure. While our community is still growing, the rate of growth has slowed as the economy had an impact. But we are still looking at between 1 per cent and 4 per cent growth this year.”
