SMS: Reactions to John Derbyshire

The left is exulting that John Derbyshire has now been fired by National Review.

I had not read anything by Mr. Derbyshire before now, but I suggest liberals read Derbyshire’s piece with some sense of self reflection.

The essence of what he says is this:

I am afraid when I am with Black people because (they) have a lot of hatred toward white folks.

He goes on to advise his child about how to stay out of such trouble by avoiding places where there are a lot of Black people.

Is this really all that different from how “we” ALL behave?

When BRS and I moved into a very nice, lower middle class Boston neighborhood, relatives and presumably liberal friends warned us of the bad things we would experience. Most of these friends refused to visit our home.

When friends at Drinking Liberally talk about how Black people but no one else has the right to use the word “nigger” in a racist fashion, isn’t this patronizing?

When a liberal group (MoveOn) needed a place to meet, my suggestion that we use a Black church was treated with fear.

When Seattle African American leaders supported Farrakhan, the liberal reaction was a misplaced effort at understanding.

When I have gone for walks in Black neighborhoods, I have had BLACK police officers tell me I should leave.

When my wife and I bought our house, “liberal” real estate agents warned us that the neighborhood had a lot of Black people.

When liberal friends decide where they should live, the Blackness of the schools is a major issue.

I could go on and on but I suggest there is a great deal of hypocrisy in the left’s response to Mr. Derbyshire’s fears.
