U.S. Senate does not acknowledge climate changefrom Granma, April 6, 2011 THE United States Senate voted April 6 against an amendment acknowledging global climate change and human responsibility for its development. The amendment was proposed by Democratic senator Henry Waxman, who asserted that the content of the document is recognized by the scientific community.

The vote indicated 184 in favor of the amendment and 240 against. The amendment was proposed to a Republican bill restricting the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulation of greenhouse gas emissions, according to Ben Geman on the website, The Hill.

Waxman’s amendment, co-sponsored by Senators Jay Inslee and Diana DeGette, read “Congress accepts the scientific findings of the Environmental Protection Agency that climate changes is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for public health and welfare.” •
