Over at SLOG, Goldy has a fascinating post. In 1989 only 18 voters cast ballots countywide in the King County Conservation District (KCCD) election. The last election had a turnout of 4 votes per thousand voters. Moreover, voting is EXPENSIVE. King County Elections charges a per-voter fee d that would eat up too much of the KCCD’s $6 million budget. As a result the KCCD elections, for 70 years, have been bases on a nominally secret ballot dominated by special interest groups in a private battle effectively closed to the rest of the voters.
To solve this? King County is the first election district in the nation to go to online voting. more at SLOG.
