Amongst the many rumored Presidents on the UW campus, Gary Locke has been one of the most worrisome.
While some of us know him as an able and committed politician, Locke as governor made a number of gaffes .. including his support for the Western Governor’s University. WGU, with its no faculty and low standards model of education is anything but respected here.
The good news is that Gary is headed to China as US Ambassador! This is a great job for him. Besides speaking Mandarin, Gary is a card carrying technocrat and should do well representing the US in our commercial dialog with China, Inc.
Still, Gary was my neighbor here on Cap Hill and I am sure he will some day want to come home. I would much prefer to see Gary Locke as a UW Prof than as our CEO!
Obama to tap Locke for China ambassador
President Obama will nominate Commerce Secretary and former Washington Gov. Gary Locke, the son and grandson of Chinese immigrants, to be the next U.S. ambassador to China. A formal announcement could come as early as Tuesday.
