from Bill Lyne at the United Faculty of Washington
Here, at the blog, if we had a nickel for every time a legislator said to us, “I love you guys, but no one ever writes or calls me about universities, so you’re never going to be on the top of my list,” we could cash out, head to the Caribbean, and buy that rental car business we’ve had our eye on for a while.
All politics is local and local politics is best played LOUD. One of the main reasons why our state universities have been serving as the state ATM for the last few years is because legislators don’t hear enough from people who like universities.
So we’d like to give all our faithful blog readers opportunities to make their voices heard by pointing you to the following links:
- The College Promise Coalition: www.collegepromisewa.com An unprecedented coalition of higher education constituents across the state.
- Western Advocates: www.wwuadvocates.org A project of the WWU Alumni Association to inform and activate Western alumni and anyone else who cares about higher education in Washington.
- UW Impact: www.uwimpact.org A project of the UW Alumni Association to inform and activate UW alumni and anyone else who cares about higher education in Washington.
Each of these websites will give you oodles of facts and figures about the plight of our state universities and, even better, they each give you a no muss, no fuss way to write your legislator. Just type in your address, write your message, and press send and your legislators will no longer be able to say that they don’t hear from people about universities. If you’re dying to tell them right now, you can go straight to one of these links:
Dude, fantastic post! I might seriously even pay attention to what you’re saying. Overall your whole blog is fantastic. I’m digging it.
