Peter Rhee, the burly and impressive physician who provided the care for Congresswoman Griffords, is one of our own!
The UW Surgeon in Chief, Dr. Rhee’s mentor comments:
… Peter came to Harborview Medical Center following completion of his residency in General Surgery at the University of California, Irvine in 1993. Supported by the US Navy, Peter completed advanced training as a Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellow in the HMC clinical trauma fellowship program and was subsequently Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery.
In addition, he completed a MPH in Injury Epidemiology in the UW School of Public Health, while working at the Harborview Injury Prevention Center.
Peter went on to utilize his training during an illustrious career in the Navy, including being the Trauma Director of Camp Rhino, Afghanistan during OEF and was Director, Navy Trauma Training Center LA in Los Angeles. He has now assumed the position of Professor of Surgery at the University of Arizona and Chief of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery and Critical Care. He has made major contributions to the development of the Tucson Trauma System that was critical in responding and minimizing the carnage from the recent shootings and multiple injuries and deaths.
We are proud of Dr. Rhee and the program he has developed based on his training at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center.
