The terms “people of color” and “white” are as as racist as the N word.
Being Black is a real thing because of the prejudice a Black skin evokes AND because of the pride Black Americans have in who they are.
The term “people of color” began as away of other ethnic groups cop onto the Black movement to their own benefit. It has become absurd, when ethnic groups of no particular color (e.g Hispanics like Crux and Rubio) or Palestinians claim to be POC or when very successful immigrant groupos, eg Koreans, Iranians, Indians or Pakistanis wat t e recognized as POC.
As for “white” .. to me this evokes the KKK and their “white pride.” I certifiably se how anyone of European origin can eb proud. I also can se how a Europen should accept the responsibility for her cultures arrociities. But to cal oneslef “white” as a temr of self denigration* is sado masochistic.
* And yes, I do see the irony in my use of the terms “sadfo masochistic” and “denigration.”

Great question. The best I can fnd is that the idea began in Spain as part of the idea that a “drop of blood” defined a group of people. This was fist applied ot converts from the Jewish community who lost civil rights and were in some cases slave, and then to Africans.
