Buchenwald 50: Anniversary of my Dad’s death and the birthday of Nicholas Winton

SIX YEARS AGO, MY Father died.. His heritage remains locked away because of my brother Hugh’s anger.  This story of another good soldier from WWII, made me think of my Dad. In 1907 Sir Winton was born Nickolas Wertheim in Hampstead, London, the son of Jewish parents. Like so many of us, the W[...]

Buchenwald 49: Robert’s Travels on Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. I have been working through my Dad’s pictures to try and see where he was after coming onto Buchenwald on April 9.  One important place may be Ettinghausen.  He mentioned a town where he acted as Governor and my son thinks that town’s name began with an E.  I ha[...]

A Mystery Is Solved Gotha Germany, Until recently I had no idea how my father had found the chemicals he used to develop the film.  Then, reading about this town near Buchenwald, I found the answer. The Shanda of Christians Who Abuse the Holocaust:  In the Nazi Era it was Fundamentalist Christians who blocked Roosevelt’s efforts to bring  the Jews here.  Now, these same Christians support Israel, at a terrible price. I came across this ad on the web.  What might $33 buy?  A meal? [...]

BUCHENWALD 39: Lost in the story of the resurrection, is a story of an insurrection.

How Christians Think About Jews at Easter There is a very strange understory associated with this video. Jay Michaelson at the Forward sees the video as a crude effort to desecrate the memory of Auschwitz and use the camps as a lever to convince Jews that Christianity is our salvation rather than[...]

BUCHENWALD 38: Ukraine events and Jewish memories of the early stages of WWII

Denials and  Debates About the Facts In Europe Marked the Path to The Camps in the 1930s. (Donetsk, Ukraine)  Once again the opponents in Europe are using their Jews as pawns.
