I agree with Chiho. Parents in well off suburbs or rich folks anywhere have choices for their kids. Parents in minority neighborhoods live lives very much controlled by the majority, In the case of Seattle, the school board reflects the often well meaning but condescending liberals ..from the same majority. Charter schools offer an answer to this critical problem. I would go further, our society is a divers one. We value choices. As long as charters fit within the rules, why on earth shouldn’t parents be able to choose a school that fits their ideas of how their kids should be taught?
