Bob Bates, the millionaire make-believe cop who killed a real-life robbery suspect last week, didn’t just donate equipment to Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz’s police agency. He also managed Glanz’s 2012 campaign, was a campaign donor, and took Glanz and his high-ranking officers on fishing trips and exotic cruises. Life was pretty cushy at the top in Glanz’s department.
“This is your typical Southern good ol’ boys system,” a former deputy told the Daily Beast. 
A sheriff’s department spokesman refused to comment, saying Bates’ gifts to Glanz are the sheriff’s “personal life” that “has nothing to do with this story.”
