CBS News reports that Waldo, Florida, is disbanding its police force and dismantling its infamous speed traps. The nearby town of Hampton did so earlier this year after the state legislature threatened to revoke its town charter. Several former Hampton town officials are under investigation for allegedly pocketing fines collected in the town’s name. This leaves Lawtey as the last of the “evil triplets” still shaking down hapless travelers. Without doubt, Lawtey’s thieving days are numbered, too. But justice won’t be complete until all the crooks are in jail and the victims get refunds.
