Former Redskins Player Running for Office Hopes to Sway Voters with Gun Giveaway
Sunday, I wrote about the KKK in my sister’s home state of South Carolina, one huge reason I am glad not to live there. Well, maybe I misjudged, fetid politics from the confederacy seems to be spilling over to my own state. South Carolina is not the only place right wing nuts see gun obsession as a pathway to democracy.
Well, the disease from South Carolina must be contagious. Clint Didier, a Washington Redskins tight end and perennial GOP candidate is offering to give away an assault rifles and his and her pistols to anyone willing to support his candidacy to replace Doc Hastings as WASTATE representative. Didier is so proud of his Redskin heritage that uses Redskins-themed ads and campaign literature, and comments that he lives close to the Yakima people. “If people don’t like [the name], they won’t go to the games. Let the people of the country decide, not the government, or the league.” “When you try to take the name away, you are slapping the Native Americans in the face because you don’t want to recognize them.” He went on to say that “people are going to find the New England Patriots to be offensive to some.” “When you start peeling away these mascot names, then you’re going to be taking away the heritage of some of these Native Americans that want that to remain,” Didier told Politico.
