Threaten gays, go to jail

A grand jury has indicted a New York woman for making phone threats to several Denver-area LGBQT businesses shortly after the Club Q shooting (read story here).

Sharon Robinson, 40, was arrested for calling four businesses and saying she was going to “shoot them up” and they were “all going to die.” She agreed to appear in a Colorado federal court as a condition of bailing out of jail.

The media didn’t report a motivation, but the Republican Party has been waging a nationwide hate campaign against LGBQT people. Much of it may be “free speech,” but it’s not harmless; two weeks ago, the Department of Homeland Security said threats and violence against gay people are “intensifying” (see story here).

People’s right to exist, and to live, shouldn’t be a political issue, but rightwing extremists are trying to turn it into one.

At times, the anti-gay hate rises to ridiculous extremes. Florida, whose governor is running for president, even banned rainbows (see article here), and a Wisconsin school wouldn’t let kids sing about rainbows (see article here). What do children think when they see adults acting this way?

Nobody should vote for Gov. DeSantis; and if that were my children’s school, I’d want a different superintendent.
