Mississippi lynching

In October 2022, a young black man in Mississippi failed to return home from work after texting his mother that he was being followed by white men in pickup trucks.

Rasheem Carter, 25, was so fearful about his safety that he went to a police station. That’s the last place he was seen alive. His dismembered body was found in a woods not far from the police station a month later.

Someone used his ATM card three days after he disappeared.

The investigation was conducted by the county sheriff, who said “we have no reason to believe foul play was involved.” The state medical examiner listed the cause of death as “undetermined.”

The body, after a month in the elements, was in pieces. Some bones were fractured, and “his head was not attached to his body.” The sheriff blamed that on wild animals.

Is Mississippi in 2022 really much different from Mississippi in 1964?
