Can we at least try to keep stupidity out of politics?

I wish I could give you hope, but it’s not looking good.

For starters, the Arizona GOP has collapsed into bitter infighting, with finger-pointing aplenty. How they’re fighting, and what they’re saying about each other, is concerning. The only positive thing about it is they haven’t started shooting yet.

“For the past two weeks, [Arizona] Republicans have faced wild accusations of bribery, money laundering and election fixing — from their own supporters.” That includes accusations of taking money from Mexican drug cartels. (Read story here.)

If you pander to screwballs by peddling conspiracy theories, you shouldn’t be shocked if they starting believing conspiracy theories about you. This would be funny if it wasn’t pathetic — after all, these people want to be the government.

Meanwhile in Concord, New Hampshire, a parent (photo below) complained to a school board that an elementary school teacher’s clothing was too different for his taste (read story here). His outrage was politically motivated, of course. He has strong opinions about how people should dress.

Things are out of control in this country. Can everyone agree to stop being stupid? At least in front of the kids?

No, I didn’t think so.
