A black hole is born

Around 2.4 billion years ago, a massive star in the Sagitta Constellation collapsed to form a black hole, and fired gamma rays into space. Astronomers are calling the explosion “BOAT” — the “brightest of all time.” The gamma rays arrived at our planet last week, and were picked up by multiple ground- and space-based telescopes and detectors (read story here).
