Who is America’s dumbest Senator?

That’s a tough one to answer.

But certainly Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) wants to be in the running.

Tuberville knows college football. He coached at Mississippi (1995-1998), Auburn (1999-2008), Texas Tech (2010-2012), and U. of Cincinnatti (2013-2016), although with a mixed win-loss record (see details here); some of those schools had better players than others.

Then he dabbled in politics. Tuberville knows very little about politics and nothing about public policy, which definitely puts him in the running for the title of “dumbest Senator,” although he has stiff competition from several other Republicans.

He is, of course, an election denier; but that’s standard for Republican politicians in general. During the 2020 campaign, which he won, he claimed World War 2 was fought “to free Europe of socialism,” and said the three branches of America’s government are “the House, the Senate, and the executive.” The fact he got over 60% of the vote suggests a large majority of Alabama’s voters are just as stupid and ignorant as he is.

And then he went to a Trump rally in Nevada last weekend, where he told “a predominately white and cheering crowd” that Democrats are “pro-crime,” before adding, “They want crime because they want to take over what you’ve got. They want to control what you have. They want reparations because they think the people who do the crime are owed that. Bullshit!”

A day later, on a CNN show, former GOP congresswoman Mia Love, who is black, reacted by saying, “When somebody shows you who they are, you have to believe them,” and called Tuberville’s remarks “unfortunate.”

Former Democratic congressman Bakari Sellers, who also is black, was more direct; after noting Tuberville earned millions from the efforts of unpaid black athletes (photo below), he said, “Tommy Tuberville can go to hell.”

Even if Tuberville isn’t America’s dumbest Senator — at the very least, he’s right down there with the dumbest — he may well be the most racist. Read story here.
