What’s wrong with this photo of an election office?

“A Republican county official in Georgia and operatives working with an attorney for former President Donald Trump spent hours inside a restricted area of the local elections office on the day voting systems there were breached, newly obtained surveillance video shows,” CNN reported on Monday, September 19, 2022 (read story here).

This happened in Coffee County, a small-population rural county in southern Georgia (see map here) where Trump got nearly 70% of the vote in 2020 (see results here). The video is from January 7, 2021, the day Coffee County’s voting systems were compromised.

The white-haired woman at left is Cathy Latham, who was GOP county chair at the time. She testified in an August 2022 deposition that she wasn’t in the office that day (see story here). In reality, she let the Trump people in, and spent hours there while they copied “sensitive software and data from its voting machines.”

This is an election office. If you were a Republican voter in Coffee County, would you want Democrats walking into this office, prowling around, and breaking into the voting machine software and data without your knowledge?

The Washington Post (at the second link above) noted the “Coffee County episode is one of several alleged breaches of voting equipment since the 2020 election. In each instance, Trump supporters — often with the help of like-minded local officials — sought access to voting equipment to hunt for evidence that the election was rigged.”

The Coffee County incident is now the subject of a criminal investigation. Latham is a target in a separate criminal investigation of Georgia’s fake electors.
