Drop boxes weren’t a problem

“The expanded use of drop boxes for mailed ballots during the 2020 election did not lead to any widespread problems,” KING 5 News reported on Monday, July 18, 2022 (see story here).

Washington, which has 100% mail voting, uses drop boxes, but this report is based on a nationwide survey of election officials, and the safety and security of drop boxes held steady across the political spectrum.

Living in a “blue” state, it’s hard for me to imagine being sent to prison for dropping off my wife’s ballot, too, to save a car trip; but that could happen in a state run by Republicans.

After losing in 2020, Trump promoted the lie that mail votes are somehow fraudulent, and his followers swallowed it. Drop boxes were a particular target of Republican ire, which they justified with baseless claims that drop boxes invite voting fraud.

Election experts across the board agree that any kind of voting fraud is very rare. Trump’s own Justice Department found the 2020 election was one of the fairest and most secure in American history.

What it boils down to is Republicans don’t believe in democracy or your right to vote. I’ll tell you right now I won’t vote in anyone I can’t vote out, and that rules out voting for any Republican candidate until the GOP straightens out its act.
