Why do Republicans lie so much?

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) has introduced a bill to repeal the federal excise tax on guns and ammunition (see story here). He explains,

“As assaults against Americans’ Second Amendment freedoms continue to emerge, so do treacherous threats that seek to weaponize taxation in order to price this constitutional right out of the reach of average Americans. I firmly believe that no American should be taxed on their enumerated rights, which is why I intend to stop the Left’s tyranny in its tracks by eliminating the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition.”

He’s referring to a tax that has existed since 1937 and pays for wildlife and habitat conservation, which benefits hunters. (See details here.)

Meanwhile, Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) has joined the growing ranks of Republicans who voted against Biden’s infrastructure bill and now are bragging about bringing home the infrastructure bacon (see story here).

Why are Republicans so dishonest? Why do they lie so much? Simple: Politicians need two things, votes and money, and lying gets them both.

Whipping their stupid, gullible, and emotionally unstable supporters into a frenzy increases turnout and brings in donations. (They also may be conducting a sociology experiment to test the limits of their voters’ tolerance for being lied to, and finding there aren’t any.)

But there’s also another element at work here: These Republican politicians have no ethics, sense of civic responsibility, or character.

You shouldn’t vote for them. Even if you disagree with the Democrats, you should hold out for a better Republican Party and better Republican candidates. No competent voter would vote for this bunch.
