Andrew Walls, 26, a leader in a Proud Boys gang in Akron, Ohio, sucker-punched a black female passerby who objected to his racist language. He also “attacked another woman at the scene,” Huffington Post reported (read story here). The incidents occurred outside a bar on Sunday, February 27, 2022, and Walls apparently was drunk. He’s been arrested and could face state felony assault charges and possibly also federal hate crime charges.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks extremist groups, has designated the Proud Boys as a “hate group.” Canada’s government considers them a “terrorist organization.” The Proud Boys “have close ties to white supremacy groups,” Huffington Post says.
