Not even butterfly rescuers are safe from Trumpers

Nobody is safe from these people, not even butterfly refuge workers.

The National Butterfly Center (profile here) in Mission, Texas, announced it will be closed to the public during a nearby Trumper rally on the weekend of Jan. 28 – 30, 2022, due to “credible threats” of violence against its personnel.

“The sanctuary’s director, Marianna Treviño-Wright, said she was warned … ‘she should be armed at all times or out of town this weekend’ because the rally included a ‘Trump Train-style caravan to the border’ that would likely make a stop at the butterfly center,” Huffington Post reported on Friday, January 28, 2022, adding “she was advised that both she and the sanctuary were targets.” (Read story here.)

The butterfly group angered Trumpers by opposing border wall construction without environmental review. In apparent retaliation, wall supporters falsely accused the group of sex-trafficking illegal immigrants in online postings.

A week ago, a Virginia Trumper running for Congress and a companion who falsely claimed to be working for the Secret Service trespassed on the property and allegedly assaulted the director, stole her phone, and tried to run over her son with a car. Local police were called, but it’s unclear whether any charges will be filed in that incident, which Center staff say was caught on security cameras.

Do I seem to be dissing on Trump Republicans a lot? I’d love to stop. All it takes is for them to stop the threats and violence, and behave like civilized human beings. Meanwhile, all I’m doing is reposting news reports about their bad (and often criminal) behavior.
