15-minute movie: “Kangchenjunga”

This movie is short enough to watch without being tedious, and offers a sense of what it’s like to climb a huge mountain, although film can’t replicate cold, wind, thin air, or the physical labor of slogging through deep snow at high altitude. If you’ve climbed Mt. Rainier, Kangchenjunga is twice as high, and gets the full brunt of monsoon winds and blizzards. This tightly-edited video chronicles the 2011 Swiss-French expedition (info here), via the 1955 British first ascent route. English subtitles, dramatic background music, with nice scenery. Running time: 14:58 min. (For a longer film depicting how tedious a slog this mountain is, go here. Not in English.)
