Are Republicans now pot-smoking hippies?

“Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced legislation on Monday that would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level,” Reuters reported on November 15, 2021 (read story here).

Marijuana, if you don’t know, is illegal everywhere in the U.S., including where it’s legal under state laws. Those state laws don’t preempt the federal prohibition.

The bill sponsored by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has five Republican co-sponsors. Now why would Republicans be pushing marijuana repeal?

They claim it’s good for business. “This bill would … support businesses, in particular small businesses. That’s very important,” Rep. Mace said.

She didn’t say whether she and her GOP colleagues are taking hits on tokes down in the parking garage in between floor votes and insurrections.
