Another one bites the dust

In February 2021, Jimmy DeYoung Sr., a religious broadcaster who pushed false vaccine conspiracy theories, invited on his show a guest named Sam Rohrer (profile here), who argued that “very few people who were infected lost their lives.”

Dr. DeYoung Sr. (photo) just became one of them. R.I.P.

Read story here. Of course, no one should take any joy in this, or say “I told you so.” Rather, we should keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. It’s sad, tragic, heart-breaking. And so avoidable, now that we have safe and effective vaccines. But, in that respect, to each his own. I got the shots as fast as I could, and I’m still here.

Speaking statistically some who have spoken out against vaccines will die. Some who have received the vaccine have also died just as statistics said would happen. You might well still be here if you had not gotten the vaccines. Many unvaccinated have survived the virus well some 99 percent have. [Edited comment.]

The death rate among infected unvaccinated people is “only” about 1% to 2%, but a significant percentage of survivors have lingering illness and some will have permanent disabilities. Don’t overlook the costs to society of overloading the health care system with a preventable illness. Vaccinated people can get infected, but they’re far less likely to be hospitalized or die, and they’ve done everything possible to avoid burdening the system. At this point, the deaths and drain on medical resources are almost entirely due to vaccine refusal, and it’s selfish because the continued spreading of the virus, the staggering medical costs, and the broader impacts on society of their actions affect all of us.
