When school meetings turn into jackass conventions

… this time, in Portland, Oregon. Read story here. Be sure to follow the Twitter thread here.

It’s one thing to have legitimate objections to school policies. That’s qualitatively different from believing in false conspiracy theories, engaging in unsafe behavior, and disrupting meetings because you’re too stupid or antisocial to act like a responsible adult.

This particular mob of jackasses was recruited by Ammon Bundy (you probably know who he is). They weren’t there to peacefully discuss school district policies, they went to disrupt the meeting, grandstand, and make a scene. That infringes on other people’s rights, but they think they’re the only ones who have any rights. And because they refuse to wear masks, everyone knows who they are.

Protest by its nature infringes on other people and their rights. You don;t particularly cre for Mr. Bundy and friends, yet they are using techniques of the left in their protests and now you think that imposes on other people rights. That disrupting a meeting is wrong. Were the blacks who refused to sit in the back of the bus or insisted on sitting at lunch counters just antisocial and irresponsible adults and rebel teens?
How dare those right wingers steal from the lefts play book? That seems to be your complaint here. I think all jackases in America have a right to protest, and to use the most effective means.

This wasn’t a protest, it was an organized effort to disrupt a school meeting by a misguided minority who aren’t remotely on the same moral plane as the 1960s civil rights heroes. None of these people is a Rosa Parks. Let’s cut to the chase: They’re not only protesting in the wrong way, they’re dead wrong. Vaccines and masks not only work, they’re essential to saving lives and ending this pandemic. These people are fighting for the “freedom” to let innocent kids get sick and die. That’s the wrong side to be on.
