Fake vaccine card costs NHL player $1.68 million and 21 games in penalty box

A costly lie, that one.

“The NHL has suspended San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane for 21 games for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card,” Huffington Post reported on Monday, October 21, 2021 (read story here).

Kane is benched without pay until November 30, and “will forfeit about $1.68 million of his $7 million salary for this season,” Huffington Post said. The money instead will go to a players’ assistance fund.

He was already sidelined while the league investigated allegations by his estranged wife “of sexual and physical abuse” and betting on games. The NHL decided those charges were unsubstantiated, but discovered he’d “violated Covid-19 protocols” by submitting a fake vaccine card, which is illegal in both Canada and the U.S. The story doesn’t say whether he’s at risk of being prosecuted for that.

Funny how they’re always contrite after getting caught (below). That does sometimes help during the penalty phase, though.
