Trump wanted the military to attack protesters

The murder of George Floyd, a black man, by Derek Chauvin, a white policeman with a history of excessive force complaints, prompted the largest civil-rights demonstrations in U.S. history. Those protests were overwhelmingly peaceful. But America’s president at the time was a white supremacist, and he wanted to kill them.

As Vanity Fair magazine describes it, “Trump repeatedly demanded the military shoot racial-justice protesters and/or bash their heads in, according to a new book by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender titled Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost.” (Read the Vanity Fair article, which delves into Trump’s long history of advocating political violence, here.)

It didn’t happen because other people in government, including General Milley and Attorney General Barr, firmly told him he couldn’t do that. This isn’t the kind of country we are.

But it’s the kind of country Trump wants. This monster should never hold public office again.
