Exciting new test for prostate cancer

A new urine test developed at the University of Michigan’s cancer center that uses AI and genomic sequencing “could detect aggressive forms of prostate cancer … missed by biopsies and scans,” the Daily Mail reported on Monday, April 26, 2021.

Prostate cancer is a common, and usually slow-growing, type of cancer in men.

But standard PSA blood test can miss present cancers 20% of the time. “The problem is that a patient can have multiple areas of cancer in the prostate and these areas may be different than each other,” one of the Michigan researchers said. “Because of this, both prostate biopsies and MRI scans can miss evidence of aggressive disease.” The new test promises to fill this gap.
