Idiots vandalize ancient petroglyphs

Person(s) unknown vandalized 1,000-year-old Native American or rock carvings in a Georgia forest, the US Forest Service says.

“The petroglyphs in Track Rock Gap, located in the Chattahoochee National Forest, were carved by Creek and Cherokee people over 1,000 years ago,” the Forest Service said. Read story here.

Who dunnit? Anti-Indian racists? Drunken frat boys? Space aliens? Who knows. But whoever did this is very stupid. And a criminal, because damaging federal property is a crime.

I’m thinking what USFS and other federal and state agencies maybe should do is put hidden trail cameras near petroglyphs and other ancient cultural artifacts on public lands, and also at parking areas, so vandals can be identified, caught, and prosecuted.
