Tennessee kids need birth certificates to play school sports

So Republican legislators can discriminate against trans kids, every kid in the state is now burdened with this:

“Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a transgender sports bill into law Friday requiring students to prove their sex at birth in order to play in middle and high school sports. The bill states that ‘a student’s gender for purposes of participation in a public middle school or high school interscholastic athletic activity or event be determined by the student’s sex at the time of the student’s birth, as indicated on the student’s original birth certificate.’

That means,

“Students must [now] show proof of their sex at the time of birth if their birth certificate does not appear to be the original or does not indicate the student’s sex at the time of birth.”

Read story here.

Guess what? Gay and trans kids don’t choose their sex, either. Like everyone else, they’re born what they are. Chromosones aren’t a behavior.

Students already needed their birth certificates as students going into a sport must show their age. Sex is also noted on birth certificates. Gay kids don’t have an issue with their birth sex. They just prefer others who are the same sex. Generally they are not trying to be in a sport as the opposite sex …. So just how many trans females who identify as males are affected? Or do they participate in sports as females? The small number of trans men who identify as female who are getting an advantage here. [This comment has been edited.]

I’ve never heard (until now) of kids needing birth certificates to participate in school sports. Mine didn’t. School principals don’t worry about whether a sixth grader should be in the fifth grade or seventh grade group on the school’s sports field. Aren’t you confusing school sports with youth sports teams, which do require a b.c.? Trans kids aren’t trying to be in sports as the opposite sex. If you identify as a girl, and want to participate in girls’ sports, you see yourself as participating with your own gender, just like everyone else. You’re still thinking about this from the mistaken perspective that gender identification is a voluntary behavior or choice. It’s not. Nature, not human choice, creates gender confusion in some individuals. It’s time for you to update your biology education.
