What science says about gender

While a battle over transgender rights plays out in Congress, GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — after being barred from serving on congressional committees for her past terroristic comments — is drawing attention to herself by going around saying, in effect, “boys are boys, and girls are girls,” and claiming that’s backed by science (photo below).

It isn’t. “Science shows quite clearly that there are several human sexes, and the number would depend on what features one decided to consider as indicative of one sex or another,” a British professor says. “We know from scientific research that variations exist,” another expert says. Most things in nature exist in gradations, not black-or-white. To find the latter, you have to look in politics and religion; there you’ll find plenty of it.
