Meet a Trump supporter

“A New Mexico county commissioner who heads Cowboys for Trump was arrested Sunday in Washington, D.C.,” Huffington Post reported on Monday, January 18, 2021.

Couy Griffin (photo below), who was wanted on an arrest warrant for storming the Capitol on January 6, drove from his home in New Mexico to Washington D.C. “in time for the inauguration Wednesday,” chronicling the trip on Facebook, Huffington Post said.

“Griffin said in a chilling Facebook video clip on ‘Inside Edition’ last Monday that ‘there’s going to be blood running’ from the Capitol when rioters return. ‘There will never be a Biden presidency,’ he vowed in an interview on the program. ‘We’re not going to allow it.’”

On Thursday, Griffin told his fellow commissioners in a videotaped meeting “that he planned to travel with his guns back to Washington for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

“I’ve got a .357 Henry Big Boy rifle, lever action, that I’ve got in the trunk of my car and I’ve got a .357 single-action revolver, the Colt Ruger Vaquero, that I’ll have underneath the front seat,” he said.

Griffin told FBI agents that “he hoped a change in leadership could be accomplished ‘without a single shot being fired.’ But he noted if that was not an option, ‘that’s off the table for the sake of freedom,’ the affidavit stated. Threatening messages concerning the inauguration have also been posted on his Cowboys for Trump Facebook page.”

A few observations: First, criminal suspects have a Fifth Amendment right to remain silent and don’t have to answer police questions, but this right can be waived, and he’s apparently waived it. Second, there isn’t a lawyer on earth who would advise a client to do that, so we can safely assume he either doesn’t have a lawyer yet, or isn’t on speaking terms with his lawyer. Third, if the GOP ever wants to be a respectable political party again, it needs to distance itself from supporters like him. A lot of distance. Finally, there’s something wrong with the people who elected him, so I wouldn’t visit that place if I were you.

Keeping the FBI busy, one trumpster at a time.

What is wrong with all these extremists?

There used to be thriving mental institutions for people like this.

This isn’t normal. This should never be sanctioned as ok. This should not become an acceptable form of free speech. People need to be held accountable for what they say. There are consequences for what one says and does. All threats deserve to be not only taken seriously, but people like this are a menace to public safety. And they should be locked up.

Once upon a time in America there was this organization called the ACLU and they would be all over some of the stuff in the affidavit and all over this arrest and others.

Maybe the organization will remember the reasons for the organization to exist. Protecting American’s rights, which sometimes has meant the organization has taken some unpopular positions. Today maybe millions of dollars of donations is more important, and money has corrupted the organization. Or is it now rights for some, and none for others?

Guns aren’t free speech. Speaking freely to the cops, after being arrested, isn’t either. It has a cost.

Threats have never been considered free speech and are investigated by the Secret Service.

Throwing money at crime, doesn’t stop something from being a criminal act.
