Capitol rioter killed by police had a rap sheet; 3 other deaths reported

Ashli Babbitt, of Ocean Beach, California, was killed by Capitol police on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, while rioting at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

Babbitt was a dodgy character with several arrests, a restraining order, and at least one civil suit, but no conviction of a serious crime, on her record. Read about that here.

She traveled to Washington, D.C., without her husband to participate in planned protests. “Babbitt’s social media featured retweets of bogus conspiracy theories that President-elect Joe Biden stole the election from Trump,” the New York Daily News reported. In an old photo, she’s seen wearing a QAnon t-shirt.

She was shot inside the Capitol Building by an officer while climbing through a window broken by other rioters to get into congressional chambers. According to a witness, just before being shot, she ignored a warning that officers had drawn guns and “were going to shoot.” She was given first aid at the scene and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The witness said “she was trying to enter an area that did not yet appear to have been breached by rioters,” CNN reported (here). “It was an area that was completely blocked off. They had chairs up against the doorway, tables, so people couldn’t get in,” the witness told CNN. Which maybe suggests they were the last line of defense between the mob and terrified members of Congress?

Three other crowd members died from “medical emergencies,” CNBC reported. Police didn’t provide more details.
