MacKenzie Scott, who walked away from her marriage to the world’s richest person with a quarter of his Amazon stock, gave $1.7 billion “to historically Black universities and colleges as well as women’s rights, LGBTQ and climate change groups” last summer, and since then, another $4.2 billion “to 384 organizations working to make a difference during the coronavirus pandemic,” including “Goodwill, the United Way, the NAACP, the YMCA and the YWCA” as well as “food banks and programs like Meals on Wheels that are at the forefront of feeding hungry Americans—a severe problem that has been exacerbated for millions during the pandemic,” Newsweek says.
Meanwhile, America’s four richest people — her ex, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk — “saw their combined fortunes grow by nearly $230 billion” this year. Read story here.

Guess we now know one reason for the divorce. Of course her wealth went up this year, and there are tax perks with giving it away. If she has any camels they probably do not fit through the eye of a needle, but getting them through that Jerusalem gate can be a challenge especially at rush hour. If she is another Carnegie well bravo though even he did not succeed in giving it all away before the big D.
He gave little of it away, before or after the divorce, and that’s the point. She’s doing it because she’s a genuinely charitable person (unlike him), and not to stick a thumb in his eye, but it has that effect. Oh, and she’s taller than he is, too.
