Pennsylvania GOP legislative leader is afraid of violent Trump supporters

“The GOP majority leader of Pennsylvania’s state senate suggested … she would be the victim of a violent attack” if she opposed efforts by Trump‘s supporters in her state “to reject the state’s election results,” The Hill reported on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Read story here.

State Sen. Kim Ward (photo) told the New York Times that refusing to back Trump’s “false claims of a rigged vote” would “get my house bombed,” implying she felt coerced into “supporting an effort by hard-line Republicans to call on Congress to reject President-elect Joe Biden‘s win in Pennsylvania” by a margin of more than 80,000 votes. Read story here.

Republicans there are circulating a letter calling on Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation to object in Congress to Pennsylvania casting its electoral votes for Biden.

Ward didn’t explain why she felt threatened, or say whether she’s received threats, but only cited “the overall mood among Trump’s base.” Read about that here.

While it’s common knowledge that many, if not most, Republican elected officials fear repercussions at the ballot box if they oppose Trump, this is the first instance I’ve heard about of an elected Republican being influenced in their official actions by fear of violence by Trump’s fanatical supporters.

Why can’t trump followers just calm down?

Why get involved in criminal behavior?

This is harmful to our country, to the integrity of voting and our election and most of all to the duty of officials to support their state’s election results.

trump is a destructive influence for encouraging his fan base because he lost an election.

trump needs to retire to sunny Florida and play more golf and leave the politics to the grown ups and not to the mobster right wing mentality of his fan base.
