First look at Biden’s cabinet

Secretary of Defense: Michelle Flourney

Bio: Her father was a cinematographer who worked on the I Love Lucy and Odd Couple shows. She attended Beverly Hills High School, Harvard, and Oxford. Served as assistant and deputy secretaries of defense under Clinton and Obama; founded a defense-oriented think tank. (Update: Biden picked a retired general isntead.)

 

Secretary of State: Tony Blinken

Bio: Stepson of an Auschwitz and Dachau survivor. Attended schools in New York and Paris, Harvard, and Columbia University Law School. After practicing law in New York and Paris, held senior foreign policy positions under Clinton, was staff director for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Vice President Biden’s national security adviser under Obama; one of three U.S. negotiators of the Iran nuclear agreement.

National Security Adviser: Jake Sullivan

Bio: Attended a Minneapolis high school, Yale, and Yale Law School; was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. Clerked for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, was chief counsel for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and held positions under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Biden.

 

UN Ambassador: Linda Thomas-Greenfield

Bio: Attended high school and college in Louisiana, and graduate school in Wisconsin. Career diplomat who served as Ambassador to Liberia and then Director General of the Foreign Service under Obama until purged by Trump.
