The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a notorious Koch-funded rightwing anti-democracy group that seeks corporate dominance of state legislatures. ALEC expert Alexander Hertel-Fernandez of Columbia University says ALEC is “seeking ways to control by a minority.”
Huffington Post reports that ALEC “was already mobilizing early this year to overturn a possible election loss by President Donald Trump, according to a videotape of an official discussing the plan.”
In the videotape, ALEC chair Lisa Nelson talks tells an election strategy session of the private Council for National Policy, another rightwing group, that “we are drafting a lot of those things” refers to exercising “political muscle.” She was specifically talking about questioning the validity of the election results and organizing GOP-controlled legislatures to cast their states’ electoral votes for Trump regardless of who the voters of their states choose.
