Giving birth during the bar exam

Becoming a lawyer isn’t easy. (I know; I’ve done it.) First you go to college for 4 years, then to law school for 3 years, then you take the bar … deliver a baby … exam. (I didn’t do the baby part.) Read story here.

The bar exam is hard and not everyone passes. Being a lawyer isn’t easy, either. I was attracted to it by the intellectual nature of the work, and perhaps in hopes of having the opportunity to make the world a little better place.

The average lawyer doesn’t get rich and it’s a difficult way to make a living. Some lawyers get disillusioned and leave the profession, but I didn’t.

I find law interesting, but I’ve ceased to believe lawyers can solve society’s problems. Lawyers can do only so much to bring about social change. But it’s good training for people who like to argue. Politics involves so much law you almost have to be a lawyer to be a legislator.
