Trump blames his illness on veterans’ families

This article contains news and commentary.

“President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that he may have become infected with the coronavirus at a White House event honoring Gold Star families — but a veterans’ group involved in the event said none of the relatives of fallen service members who attended have become sick,” NBC News reported on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Read story here.

“In an interview with Fox Business, Trump said he contracted Covid-19 because ‘I meet a lot of people. Sometimes, I’d be with groups, for instance, of Gold Star families. I met with Gold Star families,’ he told Maria Bartiromo, referring to people whose family members have been killed at war,” NBC News said.

It’s not the first time that Trump, a Vietnam-era draft dodger, has disparaged America’s military personnel and veterans. Or blamed someone else for self-inflicted problems. It’s not like he was taking precautions against Covid-19 or anything, as he traveled across the country encouraging his supporters to flout common-sense health precautions and peddling quack remedies for those who get sick.

You don’t have to be a liberal to condemn Trump as a vile, selfish, cretin without morals or conscience who’s inflicting harm on our country. Reasonable conservatives can do that, too. Basic values like honesty, respect, and taking responsibility are nonpartisan.

Is it really a blessing that this vile person continues to blame others for all his non-stop on going failures?

Did he not have a single humbling moment of being grateful not only to the medical team that saved his life, but express some gratitude that he is well enough to hold meetings, while thanking the men and women who serve our country?
