Law and order comes to Portland

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown is sending state troopers to Portland and creating a unified command structure among the various state and local law enforcement agencies who will be policing a Proud Boys demonstration on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at which thousands of armed rightwing vigilantes may show up.

The thing to do is surround them with a wall of police to protect their rights of free speech and assembly. Of course, they will be expected to stay on sidewalks, not block traffic, and not get into fights with the inevitable counter-demonstrators. There’s no reason for them to, with all those police there to protect them and their exercise of constitutional rights.

Read story here. Meanwhile, several bystanders assaulted by Proud Boys during their August protest in Portland have filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against several members of the group. Read that story here.

Below: The Proud Boys’ Portland demonstration in August 2020. See anything wrong with this picture? Not me. All I see is people walking together across a bridge blocking traffic, a guy with a bullhorn, another guy waving a flag, and no weapons in sight. Nothing wrong with any of that, except for blocking traffic, so just write them tickets for that like a southern sheriff would do to BLM protesters.
