Latest relief bill update

Steve Mnuchin, representing the White House, has called for “bipartisan agreement.” With Congress back in session and the election approaching, GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell will try to pass his party’s relief plan in his chamber this week, although he may not have enough Republican votes for this much spending to help distressed Americans impacted by Covid-19 economic closures. (Read story here.) Note the GOP has finally moved off its $1.0 trillion figure. Here’s where the Democratic and Republican bargaining positions stand as of Tuesday, September 9, 2020:
